Release Date, Demo, Platforms, and Editions

Checked September 3, 2026 against the Steam store page (app 2638890) and Capcom’s Steam news. Regional storefronts can show September 3 or September 4 because of time zones.

Release date

Capcom moved Onimusha: Way of the Sword forward from September 25 to Friday, September 4, 2026.

When this page was checked, Steam still listed the title as upcoming with a Sep 3, 2026 date. That usually means a North American evening unlock that lands on September 4 in many other regions — not a second SKU.

If your storefront disagrees by one day, treat it as a timezone display issue and follow the countdown on that store.

Capcom’s July 2026 Steam news said the old pre-order bonus became an Early Adopter Bonus available through about September 25, 2026 (the original launch date). The Standard set named on the store is Charm: Lion Dog and Sword Appearance: Sealed Curse. Deluxe / Premium pre-order sets add extra charms and appearances. Confirm the current offer on your storefront — bonus windows move.

Is there a demo?

Yes. A public demo is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam and Epic). It covers:

  • opening combat at Kiyomizu-dera
  • a duel with Sasaki Ganryu

Capcom noted that demo performance is not a full-game benchmark, and that keeping demo save data grants a bonus in the retail version. The named demo-clear charm from the June announcement is Kubi Akari.

How long is the game?

Preview coverage and Capcom comments put the main story around 20 hours, with 20–30 hours if you explore, retry bosses, and chase optional tasks. That is not a 100% estimate.

Is this a remake?

No. It is a new mainline entry starring Miyamoto Musashi, built in RE Engine. Older PlayStation 2 answers will not map 1:1.

Is it a soulslike?

It shares high-pressure bosses and timing windows with that audience, but it is still an Onimusha action game: Issen, souls, and the Oni Gauntlet are the identity, not a carbon copy of another series.
